An exoskeleton to enhance mobility

The Japanese company Cyberdyne (yes , as in Terminator ) and the University
Tsukuba initiated in 2001 an exoskeleton called HAL stands for Hybrid
assistive limb . Its name refers to the computer HAL in the movie sci-
 fiction " 2001: A Space Odyssey .
For ten years, the Japanese researchers did
 steadily improve this robotic technology.
This exoskeleton weighs 23 kg (15 kg for body
below ) is controlled by bioelectric sensors attached
to the skin , which capture signals not brain.
Micromotors set in motion in the exoskeleton
supports the muscular effort required to raise a
object, walk, sit , stand or climb stairs .
The exoskeleton HAL allows for example to lift a mass of 70 kg with one arm . But it is especially
for paraplegics who can regain some mobility.
Currently rented in Japan, in individual retail is planned for 2015 .
