California start-up since 2013 Leap sells a box that allows
manipulate his computer using motion recognition . manufacturer
says it is much more accurate than the Kinect Microsoft. little more
larger than a USB key, the Leap Motion is more sensitive than a touchscreen.
The Leap Motion housing is the first step towards an expected revolution
in the world of computers, control via gestures, like in Minority
Postponement . It is more reliable than a keyboard and more accurate than a mouse.
Placed in front of a computer screen , it projects an infrared light
which must perform the movements , while micro- cameras
detect in three dimensions the hands or all types of objects.
More useful than a touch screen , an accurate motion detection and
effective would not stay glued to the screen, not to dirty the slab
and playing , not only on a surface, but in a 3D volume ,
front of the computer or TV.
From the inside , the Leap Motion is actually a flat webcam, with two eyes instead of one to allow him to see
in relief. Hence its high price (90 € on the site of the FNAC) , comparable to high-end webcams.
Such as touch OS , the success of Leap lies primarily in the wealth of compatible applications. Leap Motion
has implemented an extensive program open to developers , who received advance housing to develop
new software. The Store already has more than a hundred , with prices ranging from free to € 75.
Although the principle of Leap Motion operates , and shows specific and sensitive , the expected revolution will be
complicated than expected because Leap misses an essential point. The gestural interface is not very intuitive. It is very
difficult to control the cursor , and chain movement. We are not about to go completely torque
keyboard / mouse .
Another disadvantage that comes immediately to mind when looking at the demo video below , fatigue
gestures, that is sure to come after a while gesticulating hands in the air. A second version
most successful of Leap Motion is currently in development . This new version will follow more
accurate and improved definition of the hand. Every bone and joint will now be identified and modeled.
