Strati the first printed 3D vehicle

Local Motors , a US company , unveiled the Strati, a small car
electric two-seater manufactured by a fully robotic process using
3D printing. 44 hours : the time it takes to print this car
made of plastic reinforced with carbon fibers.
It can drive, it is lighter than a conventional car and if we
According to its designers, it is also more solid.
Local Motors , based in Phoenix in the United States , is the first company
decision to engage in 3D printing of a vehicle. Plastic can
seem a questionable choice given the constraints faced by
vehicles , yet the material is becoming commonplace more .
Reinforced plastic of the laminate is 30% lighter than aluminum and
up to 50 % lighter than conventional steel.
With a lighter line, the electric car consumes less and rolls
therefore longer. The laminate is designed to run on electricity , it
features a Renault engine identical to that fitted to the Twizy model.
 After charging about 3 h 30 min , it can run up to 65 km / h
and for about 240 km .
The price it will cost to get behind the wheel of this new type
 vehicle is still between 14 000 and € 23 000 .
