Chemists have created a new rewritable paper

Chemists of California Riverside University have created a new type of rewritable paper that can be erased and reused many times . Not to be confused with electronic displays. Here, we really print, then delete and then reprints , etc ... !

The advent of the digital home, in government or in business has not stopped the use of the old paper. A large amount of documentation that still remains printed and retained on paper while most of these documents is put in the trash after a single use and small .

All this is not really "sustainable development" and that's not to mention the phenomenal consumer ink cartridges needed to print those sheets of paper.

For the manufacture of this rewritable paper , chemists use the chemical properties of a particular ink . A mask containing the text is placed on this rewritable paper. Exposed to ultraviolet light , the parties unmasked whiten paper , leaving the printed text under the covered parties.

To clear the printing and recreate a clean sheet must then exposing the paper to a temperature of about 115 ° C.

According chemists , a printed document with this technology is readable in high resolution for more than three days under normal conditions. So it's good enough for reading newspapers or reports.

Also according to the inventors , this rewritable paper is easy to manufacture, has a low production cost, low toxicity and low energy demand .

For now, this technology allows for 20 printing cycles and re-entry without loss of resolution and contrast. The research team is now aiming to achieve 100 cycles .
